For 27-year-old Melissa Butler, her path to the beauty realm is rather unique. After earning a degree in Business from Florida A&M University, the Detroit native packed up her bags and moved to New York to pursue a career on Wall Street. Slowing climbing the corporate ladder, she realized her true passion was hidden within her. Determined to challenge the current standard of beauty, founder, Melissa Butler dreamt up an idea to start a cosmetics line after being fed up with toxic and boring makeup. Her passion for painting and priming the perfect pout gave birth to ‘The Lip Bar,’ a line of lipsticks ranging from electric blue to neon tangerine. For her, lipstick is more than just makeup — it’s the ultimate beauty accessory.

She allowed her dreams to guide her and she began studying the chemistry of cosmetics in her kitchen. The goal was to create a product that was for the young and savvy but also for the health conscious consumer. Founded on the idea that women can be whoever they want to be, The Lip Bar launched in 2012 releasing 12 handmade bold and bright shades that allowed women to express themselves through beauty. The Lip Bar maintains the idea that beauty doesn’t have to compromise health. In that, their lipsticks offer a unique blend of natural ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil and jojoba oil, designed to moisturize, soften and amplify lips all while setting consumers apart with intoxicatingly bold colors.

In its first year, the Lip Bar’s products have become a fashion craze. In using the brand’s success as a catalyst to spread their message of non-toxic cosmetics, Melissa Butler recently started a campaign for ‘The Lip Bar Truck.’ The goal of the truck is to grant the ultimate cosmetic experience with a mobile cosmetic bar. The luxury cosmetic bar caters to their consumer’s individuality through highly pigmented and responsibly made products. Patrons will be able to get onto the truck, try on product, make purchases and lounge in a fun space.
