‘Negro’ Will No Longer Appear on U.S. Census
The Census Bureau is dropping its use of the word “Negroâ€ to describe black Americans in surveys, the Associated Press reports.
Census forms will now useÂ “blackâ€ or “African-American.”Â The change will take effect next year.
Nicholas Jones, chief of the bureau’s racial statistics branch, said according to research they conducted, most view the term as “offensive and outdated.â€
