Jesse Jackson Jr. Tenders His Resignation from Congress

U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., resigned from Congress yesterday afternoon, submitting his letter of resignation to House Speaker John Boehner.

Jackson is the target of a federal probe into his campaign accounts, and is trying to negotiate a deal with the feds, though a deal is not yet in place.

“I am aware of the ongoing federal investgation into my activities,” Jackson said in the letter. “And I am doing my best to address the situation responsibly, cooperate with the investgators, and accept responsibility for my mistakes, for they are my mistakes and mine alone.”

A source close to the former Congressman said he had planned to give a press conference but was unable to do so because he “couldn’t stop crying.”
