The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl Issa Rae Gets Comedy on ABC Via Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland

Viral sensation Issa Rae is stepping from the second screen to the first with her latest project set to premiere on ABC. The creator and star of the hit web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl penned the half-hour comedy I Hate L.A. Dudes, which was sold to the network by Shonda Rhimes‘ Shondaland, according to Deadline Hollywood.

I Hate L.A. Dudes follows an aspiring journalist, new to the popular Southern Cali town, who is the only female radio personality on an up-and-coming, male-driven Internet talk show. The 30-minute show will also capture the radio newbie as she ventures into the Los Angeles dating scene.

Rhimes, the brains behind ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Scandal, and her producing partner Betsey Beers both executive produce I Hate L.A. Dudes. The duo also oversees The Mix, a comedic drama written by John Hoffman, which zooms in on the lives of “an influential morning talk show.”

Rae is writing and co-executive producing I Hate L.A. Dudes.”I’m so excited for the opportunity to work with Shondaland and ABC,” said the 27-year-old innovator. “I’m very grateful that Awkward Black Girl and YouTube have helped to open the door for such amazing opportunities.”
