According to reports, Apple recently announced the addition of Lisa Jackson to its company roster. The former head of the Environmental Protection Agency brings her experience as a chemical engineer and her aptitude for fighting hard battles with Congress to the tech giant. Apple’s CEO announced the recent hire at All Things D’s tech conference Tuesday, but reports say her official title is unknown.

Apple has been making efforts in recent years to be more Earth-friendly, with its pledge to run all its facilities off of renewable energy by the end of this year. The company says on its Website that it has “already achieved 100% renewable energy at all of our data centers, at our facilities in Austin, Elk Grove, Cork, and Munich, and at our Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino. And for all of Apple’s corporate facilities worldwide, we’re at 75 percent, and we expect that number to grow as the amount of renewable energy available to us increases.”

“I’m incredibly impressed with Apple’s commitment to the environment and I’m thrilled to be joining the team,” Jackson said in a statement released by Apple. “Apple has shown how innovation can drive real progress by removing toxics from its products, incorporating renewable energy in its data center plans and continually raising the bar for energy efficiency in the electronics industry. I look forward to helping support and promote these efforts, as well as leading new ones in the future aimed at protecting the environment.”

This new opportunity lends a nod to minority inclusion in the green jobs space, an industry often criticized for lack of diversity and lackluster results in terms of job creation and financial support, however a new report showed higher growth than other sectors including healthcare.
