It’s no secret that professionals today desire more control of their time and work schedules, preferring flexibility and work-life balance. And many are looking for remote jobs that offer that flexibility. In fact, a recent Gallup poll found that 53% of employees say a role that offers better work-life balance is “very important” to them when considering whether to take a new job. Fifty-one percent also indicated they would give up their job for one that offered them flextime, and 37% would do the same for a job in which they could work where they want if only during part of the full workday.

Brie Weiler Reynolds, senior career specialist at FlexJobs says remote jobs are appealing in a number of ways. “It can reduce stress levels, improve satisfaction with work, free up time to spend with family, open up new job possibilities that don’t exist in the immediate geographic area, and so much more. Remote work can turn a career change into a life change,” says Weiler Reynolds.

For those who want to make a total career switch and say goodbye to the office or cubicle life, getting your feet wet first at the entry level and gaining a reputation with a company while you’re already employed might be a good idea as well.
