Trayvon Martin Death Anniversary: Fla., Self-Defense Laws Stay the Same


 

Last Friday on Feb. 22, almost a year after Trayvon Martin’s death a task force commissioned by Florida Governor Rick Scott to observe the states “stand your ground” self-defense law announced they saw no reason to make changes to the statute.

The law allows citizens to use deadly force in a situation where they have “presumption of fear of death or great bodily harm.”

Florida defense attorney Mitch Stone saw this coming.

“We are a state that is very interested in the Second Amendment,” said Stone, who has litigated various cases having to deal with the ‘stand-your-ground law.’  “A lot of people here carry guns and are adamant that nothing should be done to change that, in any way, shape or form.”
