Ethan Ricks (Team Captain)

Senior, Computer Engineering, Jackson State University

Ethan Ricks is an aspiring software engineer from Brandon, Mississippi, and a Senior Computer Engineering major at Jackson State University. Initially drawn to Jackson State by a passion for robotics, Ethan soon discovered a deeper interest in software engineering and programming. This shift in focus has allowed him to explore a range of development skills, from exploring different classical algorithms to experimenting with mobile application development. Ethan is a recent graduate of Techwise, a program supported by Google that aims to develop undergraduate students into full-stack software engineers. Through this program, he gained industry insights, deepened his technical expertise, and enhanced his problem-solving abilities. Additionally, Ethan serves as the student branch chair of the Jackson State University IEEE chapter, where he helps engage students in technical development opportunities.

Ethan has hands-on experience with command-line tools from his three internships with the Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory of the Engineering Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, MS. During that time, he focused on implementing Automated Regression Testing Test Suites for the Coastal Processes Branch’s various numerical models. His background also includes developing web applications, combining back-end and front-end technologies to create dynamic, user-friendly applications. Ethan is dedicated to building secure, efficient systems that address real-world problems. Outside of his responsibilities as a scholar, he enjoys working out and leading Bible studies on campus.
