Sweet! Digital opportunities have been added to the behind-the-booth Girl Scout sellers. On Dec. 1, the national Girl Scouts announced a program that will offer the groups twelve cookies, such as the chocolaty Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Shortbread, and other customer favorites to the virtual world.
“Digital Cookie,” an electronic platform created by the organization for the girls to sell and ship boxed cookies to invited relatives and friends around the country, according to the New York Times. For now, not all girls will be participating in the program because of the early stages of the initiative. Besides the online possibilities, some girls will take in-person orders using a mobile app designed specifically for Girl Scouts.
The news of the tech upgrade was both negative and positive on the world wide web. “Soon the girls won’t have to interact with anyone. Not sure this is a great thing,” a Facebook user posted on the club’s page on Dec. 1. While another user chimed in, “This is great! You know where I’ll be.”
As a result of selling cookies, scouts are equipped with five essential skills like goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics, stated on the official Girl Scouts’ website.
