Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wants to be “a small business president” for the country per her inaugural post on LinkedIn’s Pulse page. Social media and a strong millennial following proved to be a big boost for President Obama’s bid for the White House and Clinton is following in his footsteps. President Obama used LinkedIn in 2008 and 2012 to ask questions of small business owners.
LinkedIn is Clinton’s latest social media platform since joining Facebook last month to announce the launch of her presidential campaign. As of early Thursday, she only had 2,500 followers on LinkedIn compared to 833,000 likes on Facebook and the 3.55 million followers she boasts on Twitter.
Clinton emphasized the policies she would implement as president to help small businesses. She wrote that she would work to “cut the red tape” holding back entrepreneurs, help small businesses get loans more easily, simplify the tax code and help small businesses access new markets, reports CNN.
Clinton also used the post to highlight encounters with small business owners in the early primary states of New Hampshire and Iowa, where she has spent significant time since announcing her bid on a neatly organized “listening tour,” according to CNN.
Pointing out the fact that hard work is no longer enough to get ahead, Clinton further noted, “And yet, as I travel around the country, I hear signs of optimism,” she said. “That’s the spirit that got Americans through the Great Recession. And as we come back from the crisis, potential new business owners and entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley to Des Moines to Brooklyn are ready to seize the moment. All they need are policies that help them get ahead instead of holding them back.”
