The SAT scores for the high school graduating class of 2012 fell in two of the test’s three sections, according to data released by the College Board, a non-profit that administers the college-entrance test. Data also revealed that student performance in the reading section is the lowest in four decades.

Only 43 percent, or 1.66 million of students who took the test received scores showing that they are prepared to do well in college. College Board officials and experts point to a growing testing pool for declining test scores. Last year, 45 percent of students who took the exam were members of a minority group, up from 38 percent. An additional 28 percent of test takers reported that English was not exclusively their first language.
