Obama Wants High Speed Internet for all Students

The administration wants students to use wireless devices at their desks

obama talking to black studentsPresident Barack Obama on Thursday will announce plans to equip more school districts with high-speed internet connections, Reuters reports.

The president will make the announcement after touring a Mooresville, N.C. middle school, which administration officials say has improved its test scores and graduation rates through digital learning.

How will Obama’s plan work? The Federal Communications Commission will expand its E-Rate program, a $2.3 billion-per-year federal subsidy that gives public schools and libraries cheaper rates for internet service.

The average U.S. school has a slower internet connection than the typical American home and many cannot stream a web video in multiple classrooms at the same time, according to the White House.
