Today Occupy Wall Street demonstrators are marching to New York’s Upper East Side to literally take their protest to the front doors of the wealthy bankers whom they hold responsible for the country’s economic crisis. But yesterday the protesters got a show of celebrity solidarity in the form of a visit from hip-hop mogul turned activist Russell Simmons and Kanye West. This wasn’t the first time that Simmons, an early supporter of the movement, made an appearance in the Downtown Manhattan Zuccotti Park but it was a first for West.

He’s a celebrity – what is he supposed to show up in… a hoopty?

    • Derrique Stuckey

Perhaps he could have just NOT shown up at all?
Cruising up in a luxury car kind of defeats the proposed purpose of the squatters’ protest. That’s Kanye for you. He’s never been the type to think before he actually does something.

…and the many people using their iphones and ipads kinda defeats the purpose of the purpose, especially given Apple’s corporate share worth and power.

Great comment. Here in the San Francisco metro area, the occupy group uses the same technology tied to Wall Street, Washington DC and the current transformation of the area into the playground for the rich. I wonder why there is no uproar about the tech firms ties, questionable hiring practices and lack of equal opportunity for those who do not look like the “new” good oles of silicon valley. But, tech firms could do NO wrong in the world (sarcasm).

…this occupy wall street is a bunch of BS….Im a successful black american (by anyones measure) and I don’t owe these nuts a DAMN thing…I don’t remember any of those nuts helping me start my company and/or working 18-21 hours a day to get it off the ground…….What in the world are they thinking?? I would imagine that these are some of the same people that thought Obama would pay their bills…Get off your PeaceNic Ass and make your own way.

Man works primarily for his own self-respect and not for others or for profit. . . the person who is working for the sake of his own satisfaction, the money he gets in return serves merely as fuel, that is, as a symbol of reward and recognition, in the last analysis, of acceptance by one’s fellowmen.

so, you made it. are you sure you made it. or are you just getting by. because as I see it you are an exception. not the rule. so it reads like this. most blacks are part of the 99%, except me, now when the 99% turns into 51% then I may see where you have done something. but for now welcome to the 99%, because that is all you are.

I Do Not Choose to be a Common Man
        How will you be different?

I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon— if I can. I seek opportunity not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, “This I have done.”

You worry too much about the %’s…..try concerning yourself with making something of yourself….then each one teach one….That is the only way we improve out circumstances as a people…You can’t help anyone if you aint got %@!#!!!! Bottom Line 🙂

Great Kanye and Simmons – ya I want them representing me. Maybe it should be Kantye. He’s a tool. Never saw a guy make so much money with absolutely no talent. Rap is crap. Anyone with a 3rd grade mentality can rap. They steal music from real songwriters, and rhyme some garbage over it about how tough their life is, all buzzed on 40’s, got back, all dat and don’t forget the Benjamins…musically it’s joke. So K, please go away. and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. And now that you have all that money – go buy a personality and some talent. But please DON’T represent us.

I was lived in communist country USSR and now i live in Belarus, where we have dictatorsip of Lukashenka. It is very poor, dull world without freedom. Paternalism of state is very good for lazy people, who are irresponsible and infantile. This is ruined our country. We have salary near 300 $ and prices as in USA. I read here “wise” advice to print money and to give it for people. Lukashenka do so and we have the largest inflation in Europe.
God bless America and save America from communists of OWS.
