Sen. Hillary Clinton released her delegates this afternoon, allowing them to cast their votes for Sen. Barack Obama, the all-but-certain presidential nominee Barack Obama.
That wasn’t what many of her supporters wanted to hear, who yelled out a resounding, “No!”
“I am not telling you what to do,” Clinton told her fans. “You’ve come here from so many different places having made this journey and feeling in your heart what is right for you to do.”
Despite her move, her supporters are still voting for her as the nominating process is currently taking place in Denver’s Pepsi Center. Currently, she has 162.5 votes to Obama’s 659.5 votes.
New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine said Democrats from his state, which Clinton won, voted in private to unanimously support Obama, according to Associated Press reports.
“I think it is reflective of the unity that I sense that is building across the party,” Corzine said. “That doesn’t mean there won’t be outliers that are still heartbroken their favorite candidate didn’t make it.”
After the meeting, hundreds of people lined up for at least an hour to shake the New York senator’s hand and to get memorabilia signed.
