Though generally union workers earn more than those who are not unionized, a new study finds that African-American union workers stand to gain more than non-black union workers. According to the Economic Policy Institute, black union workers earn about 17.3 percent more than non-union workers, which is $2.60 on top of their hourly wage.

Known as a “union premium,” workers who have union memberships benefit from increases in their hourly wage. But for African-American union workers, that premium can be more significant considering blacks and Latinos are statistically more economically disadvantaged.
