Media group Face2Face Africa (F2FA) is gearing up to host the 2015 Face List Awards. The event takes place in New York City on July 11 during the Pan-African Weekend and honors pioneers and trailblazers in several fields, including business, leadership, sports, entertainment, technology, health, and the nonprofit sector. Each of the honorees are selected for their contribution toward the progress and development of the Pan-African community.
Some of this year’s honorees include:
– Accepting the Humanitarian Award are actors and power couple Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker-Kodjoe, the founders of the Sophie’s Voice Foundation. Sophie’s Voice, created in honor of their daughter Sophie who was diagnosed with Spina Bifida at birth, has shown unwavering support toward global health and wellness initiatives. Much of the organization’s focus is on multicultural communities and educating families worldwide on the importance of building healthy lifestyles.
– Receiving the Entrepreneur Award is Ashish J. Thakker whose small IT business in Uganda has grown into a globally recognized multi-sector conglomerate. After escaping the Rwandan genocide, Thakker established his first business at 15 with a $5000 loan. His business savvy has earned him the title of Africa’s youngest billionaire.
– The Leadership Award recipient, Amadou Gallo Fall, is currently spearheading the development of basketball on the continent of Africa as NBA Vice President and Managing Director for Africa. As a native of Senegal and a promising athlete himself, Fall experienced first-hand the disconnect between watching and playing in the NBA. Now he leads the NBA’s efforts to promote basketball in Africa from his office in Johannesburg.
The awards dinner will be held at the ESPACE ballroom in Manhattan and will feature an opportunity for guests to hear the honorees’ journeys in their own words, along with brief vignettes that capture their deep commitment to their causes. With a red carpet reception that begins at 6:30 p.m., guests can expect an evening filled with camaraderie and entertainment as they come together to acknowledge the hard work and highlight achievements of the Pan-African community.
