Lights, camera, action! Whenever you have a media appearance to make, you make sure that your face is on point. But what about the rest of the time? Perhaps you come to work every day looking like you’re about to step onto a stage, complete with a full face of mega-cosmetics. Or, in the other extreme, you may feel no need to pay any attention to what your face looks like. “I’m here to do my job, not to impress anyone,” you may reason. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong.
True, you don’t go to work thinking of it as a fashion show. But the way you look-good or bad-conveys important messages about your professionalism to those around you. Thus, it’s imperative that your face always looks its best. This is best accomplished by maintaining a face that always looks fresh-even at five o’clock in the evening.
“A ‘fresh face’ is one that shows off clean, dewy skin,” says Andrea Fairweather, CEO of Fairweather Faces (www.fairweatherfaces.com), a traveling beauty service firm based in New York City with an office in L.A. “Even if the skin is not at its best, it should still appear blemish free.” This means wearing undetectable foundation makeup and well-blended eye, blush and lip colors. And don’t think that a fresh face is just for women. “Men should aim for clean skin and groomed facial hairs,” she advises.
For the most part, it’s easy to achieve and maintain just such a face. Fairweather points out three simple steps that will help you be ready to face the world with confidence.
- Step #1: Start with the basics. It’s recommended that you drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day to flush out toxins. Cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin daily, and get monthly facials.
- Step #2: Retouch regularly. Women should use pressed powder to eliminate shine. Men and women can also use rice paper ($2 to $3 for a pack of 50 sheets) to blot oily facial areas and leave the skin feeling refreshed. Lip balm for men and gloss for women will do away with dry lips. To make eyes pop, a dab of mascara will do nicely.
- Step #3: Keep after-hours glam simple. To go from a clean and natural daytime look to a no-fuss evening look, try fake lashes. They’re fun and flirty. Brush additional color over eyes, cheeks and lips. For a warm finish, dust a little shimmery powder on temples and shoulders.
