Working on the road may get a bit easier with the innovation of workspaces called CyberOasis. Currently at Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport and Kern County Airport in Bakersfield, California, the kiosks feature computers with access to Microsoft, Corel and Lotus software, ISDN access, laser printers, Internet access, e-mail and fax services. Users can also set up an electronic mailbox accessible for 30 days.
Computer time costs 33 cents a minute, and laser prints run 50 cents per page. You’re charged $1 per page to send or receive faxes. Currently, the kiosks only accept charge cards. But according to Hitesh Shah, CEO of Blueshift Geodesics in Atlanta, the creators of CyberOasis, debit and smart cards will be added acceptable forms of payment in the coming months. Future sites in Hartford, Connecticut; Rochester, New York; Memphis, Tennessee; and San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi, Texas, will debut by spring 1998.
