According to The Daily News, two more central figures were added to the cast of the upcoming Aaliyah biopic. Izaak Smith will take on the role of producer Timbaland and Chattrisse Dolabaille will play Missy Elliot.
The newcomers will play the roles of two key people responsible for Aaliyah’s sound. Timbaland, was her producer and Missy Elliot, who was not only a rapper/singer, but also a good songwriter, was instrumental in Aaliyah’s career.
“Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,” which is being produced by Wendy Williams, has been controversial since the announcement of the movie. Aaliyah’s immediate family opposes the project and there was backlash over the original casting of Zendaya Coleman as Aaliyah. Now, there is grumbling over Dolabaille, who doesn’t remotely resemble Missy Elliot in any shape or form.
Lifetime says the movie will premiere this fall.
