What is the Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge?
The Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge continues to provide unparalleled opportunities in black business networking by uniting the nation’s top business minds for a weekend of epicurean indulgence and friendly competition. The Golf & Tennis Challenge gives you the opportunity to strengthen old alliances and build new ones on some of the most coveted business turf in corporate America–the golf course and tennis court.

Who should attend?
Anyone looking to do business, relax, or both. We provide a weekend of business, pleasure, and friendly competition. Adult registration is ages 17 and up. Our children’s program accommodates ages 7 through 16. We are anticipating more than 1,000 attendees this year.

Tournament Golf Package ($895) hosted by Callaway Golf–includes three full rounds, three-day competitive or noncompetitive play, clinics, cart fees and range golf balls, awards for competitive play, and Callaway golf equipment, compliments of the sponsor.

Golf Academy Package ($795)–includes one one-on-one and three group lessons, etiquette classes, two-hour clinics, and a one-day beginner’s golf tournament, which includes free range golf balls and prizes for competitive play.

Social Golf Package ($695 limited time only)–includes two full rounds of non-competitive play, choice of two days, Friday-Sunday. Get a special discount on optional third day of play. Also includes clinics, cart fees, and access to driving range and range balls.

Tournament Tennis Package ($595)–includes three days of competitive play (USTA-rated players only); daily clinics, Friday-Sunday; daily contests with prizes; opportunity to participate in mixed doubles tournament; daily giveaways; awards for competitive play.

Social Tennis Package ($595)–includes three days of non-competitive play; daily clinics, Friday-Sunday; daily contests with prizes; opportunity to participate in mixed doubles tournament; daily giveaways.

Tennis Academy Package ($595 limited enrollment)–includes three days of two-hour group clinics and etiquette classes, Friday-Sunday; beginner’s tennis tournament with giveaways and prizes; daily contests with prizes; daily giveaways.

Spa Package ($695)–includes one 50-minute spa service; one 25-minute spa service; access to the spa on days of treatment; and cosmetic, health, and lifestyle consultations.

Tennis Package ($595)–includes competitive or noncompetitive play; daily clinics, Friday & Saturday; daily contests with prizes; optional mixed doubles tournament; and prizes for competitive play.

What does the registration fee include?
In addition to the above, the registration fee includes access to the following: informative health and financial seminars/workshops, lifestyle activities (e.g., 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball tournaments), golf clinics, tennis clinics, all evening functions that may include live entertainment, J.W. Marriott’s fitness center and pools, food and beverages (Thursday through Sunday), and a special gift bag, compliments of our sponsors. Registration does not include the hotel room or travel arrangements.

Do I need to be a professional golf or tennis player to participate in the tournaments?
No. Anyone can play in the golf or tennis tournaments as long as you are registered accordingly. We have a social-play group, which allows for friendly play without the stress of competition. However, if you’re interested in showing off a beautiful trophy in your home or office, our competitive play is just what you are looking for. We rank each player and place him or her in their appropriate flights based on ability, so you will be playing alongside participants with a skill level comparable to yours. Competitive players must compete on all three days of the tournament (Friday-Sunday) to be eligible for tournament prizes.

How do I select my spa treatments for the Spa Package?
Once you are registered, you will receive a list of spa treatments that are available to you. You should select one 50-minute treatment and one 25-minute treatment. Other spa treatments can be made on an a la carte basis.

What does the Ritz-Carlton Kids program include ($395)?
The Ritz-Carlton Kids program offers a variety of supervised physical and creative activities designed especially for children ages 5 to 12. These include swimming and pool games; arts and crafts; playground play; computer, board game, and video game challenges; obstacle courses and relay races; karaoke and dance parties; foosball and table tennis tournaments; outdoor adventures; surrey bike rides; games and sports. And just when you thought the fun was over, our mini moguls get to enjoy their own unique Golf & Tennis experience! They have the option of participating in golf and tennis clinics–taught by the same professionals that work with you–to learn fundamental techniques, give practice tips, and run conditioning drills.

How much does it cost to stay at the host hotel and how do I make a reservation?
We have reserved a group rate of $235 per night plus resort fees and taxes. You must register for the event in order to reserve a hotel room. You will receive an event confirmation number within four to five business days of registering. The J.W. Marriott will not accept room reservations without this event confirmation number. A limited number of rooms is available for registrants of the Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge. Hotel reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to availability. An event confirmation number does not guarantee you a room.

What is the cancellation policy for the hotel?
Reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card. A deposit equivalent to the first and last night’s stay plus tax (12.5%) is required for each reservation. A full refund is available if the cancellation is made at least 72 hours prior to your arrival. If the cancellation occurs within 72 hours of your arrival, you will be charged the equivalent of one night’s stay plus tax. An early departure will result in your being charged the equivalent of one night’s stay plus tax as well.

Please Note: BLACK ENTERPRISE does not make guestroom reservations and you must be registered for the event to make a room reservation. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to availability.

When does registration close?
Registration has sold out early in the past 10 years so we suggest registering as soon as possible.

Can I bring a guest and will they be able to participate in some of the activities?
Your guest will have to register for one of the above packages in order to participate in or have access to any of the activities at the Golf & Tennis Challenge. Each participant is required to wear an ID badge and wristband throughout the event and security is posted at all activities. We strongly suggest that all interested persons register for the event to avoid disappointment on site. Due to fire codes and space limitations we are unable to accept registrations on site.

I am trying to make my flight reservations now. When do you suggest I arrive in Orlando and when does the last event take place?
We suggest flying into Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, or Thursday, Sept. 3. The Challenge registration desk opens on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The event begins on Thursday with our Sponsor Expo Hall, which is open from Noon to 6:00 p.m. (Times are subject to change.) The last event of the Challenge is the Awards Dinner on Sunday, Sept. 6, 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., followed by the Farewell Rendezvous party from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. (Times are subject to change.)

When will I receive a detailed agenda?
A detailed agenda will be sent to registrants in August. Due to the multitude of activities, we want to give you as accurate an itinerary as possible.

What is the dress code for the event?
Attire will be addressed in the materials you receive via mail in August. Typically, our evening functions vary between resort casual and semi-formal. Golf and tennis attire is required for the golf courses and tennis courts.

What is your cancellation policy for registration?
A refund of adult registration fees, minus the $150 non-refundable deposit (and/or a refund of children’s registration fees, minus the $50 non-refundable deposit) will be made upon receipt of written cancellation postmarked no later than July 15, 2009. No subsequent refunds will be made after July 15, 2009. This deadline also applies to individuals who change to lower-cost packages. Fees are transferable to a different package or individual, but requests must be submitted in writing by August 15, 2009.
