Everyone’s been privy to it: that one office or department favorite who always gets a pass, or that coworker who is always put on the top projects and positioned for advancement—deserving or not. These are classic cases of favoritism, and it’s a common practice in today’s workplace. If you’re not fortunate enough to be the favorite, here are ways to combat the issue without losing your job:

Get The Facts Before You React

Facts first. You must fully assess the situation before making an accusation. Being overlooked does not always equate to favoritism. Could you possibly have been disregarded because you didn’t perform to the expected level? Did the one being “favored” actually perform and produce better work? Check yourself quickly before you cling to the thought of being unjustly overlooked to ensure that you aren’t looking through victim-tinted glasses.
