Maya Harris, who will serve as one of three advisers alongside Ann O’Leary and Jake Sullivan, is an American lawyer and public policy advocate. She is the only one of the three candidates who has not worked alongside Clinton in the past, having previously served as a dean at the Lincoln Law School of San Jose and worked as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. While serving as senior fellow, Harris wrote a paper titled, Women of Color: A Growing Force in the American Electorate, where she used statistics and data to emphasize the importance of the black female vote. In the paper, Harris wrote, “Women are the largest voting bloc, and women of color are the fastest-growing segment of that group,” arguing that politicians should place more focus on trying to attract a winning vote from women of color.
Harris, who received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and her law degree from Stanford Law School, is believed to have been brought on board to help Clinton dedicate a significant portion of her campaign to winning the vote of underrepresented populations.
