PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard says about 450,000 gallons of crude oil has spilled into the Port of Port Arthur area in southeast Texas after two vessels collided. No injuries have been reported, but part of the port has been closed.
U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Renee Aiello tells The Association Press that roughly 450,000 gallons of crude spilled when a 600-foot tanker carrying oil collided with a towing vessel pushing a loaded barge Saturday morning.
She says the collision left a 15-by-8-foot hole in the tanker. The towing vessel then ricocheted and hit another tanker that was tied to the pier. She didn’t know what damage was caused to that ship.
Port Arthur is about 90 miles east of Houston.
